A green tinged glass is Kevin Christison's signature design material, an expert in casting this glass into many shapes and forms. He developed this skill and the ideas that would become central to Object Design Studio’s philosophy and success while working as a designer and consultant on major hospitality industry projects, in Asia. Projects such as Six Senses Laamu Lattitude Resort in the Maldives, Soneva Kiri Resort Koh Kood and Yai Ya Resort, Hua Hin, both in Thailand are a signal successes for the way the natural environment has been integrated with the designed environments. Sea, beach, and pool have been visualised as interlinked spaces or ‘rooms’, seamlessly connected to environments containing restaurants and bars. Sea water and fresh water have been contained in pools on different levels and appear to overlap and flow from one to the other. Throughout vistas of sea and sky are preserved.

Furniture, furnishings and fabrics give a soft understated opulence, to these free flowing spaces. After all, these are environments created for lounging. What Kevin’s glass style brings to these perfectly co-ordinated environments, is drama, art and centre pieces. Just like water, which is also ice, glass has an ambivalence about it. Pools of water have been provided with green glass sides that makes them appear like rectangular icebergs, but the fluted outside surface of the glass mimics the water that might flow down those sides. The bars he creates aren’t just bars, they are monumental objects as well, but because they are made of glass they light themselves up, become translucent, ice-like and appear to float on the black polished tiles of a floor, even appear to melt. The glass bar, at Soneva Kiri Resort sports glass bar stools, great stacks of glass that reflect and scintillate. Since ancient Roman times and earlier, man has carried in the back of his mind the knowledge that glass can also be shard.
